Take the Family to Black Lake

Learn and have fun!

March 2009

Education and relaxation are the goals of the UAW’s summer Family Scholarship Program, a unique summer experience at the UAW Family Education Center in Black Lake, MI.

Learn about the UAW and the labor movement while enjoying a vacation in a beautiful setting among countless forms of wildlife. And it’s easy on the wallet: UAW pays for all lodging, meals and program costs.

Here’s how it works

Black Lake Summer Program

During the day, parents participate in workshops with lively discussions and interactive exercises while children go to age-appropriate day camps with creative arts, music, games, athletics and swimming. The age groupings are 3-7 and 8-11.

Youngsters 12-15 will enjoy union involvement workshops, golf, swimming and gym games.

Teens 16-18 are offered a program to prepare them for the working world.

Other afternoon and evening activities include laps at the indoor pool, a walk on the Black Lake beach, various sports and Karaoke Night.

In addition, golfers can play the award-winning golf course, which offers reduced rates for UAW members and retirees.

Scholarship

To be eligible for a family scholarship, you must be a UAW member in good standing for at least a year and never have attended the scholarship program.

This summer’s three sessions are July 5-10, July 12-17 and July 19-24. The July 19-24 session is also offered in Spanish.

Sessions fill up fast, so don’t delay. Contact the office (272-4108) for an application.
