New Member Guide

Local 2300 belongs to you.

You elect all your officers and can help shape our decisions. You choose your Union Stewards and Zone Representatives, people just like you who receive special training to act on your behalf.

You have the right to participate in membership meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m. at the Union Hall, 110 N. Geneva Street in Ithaca. Everyone is welcome, and you can express your opinion on any issue.

The membership is the highest authority in the union.

You also elect officers to your Executive Board every three years. The next union election will be in May 2010.

The Union President works full-time day-to-day administering the affairs of the Union, as well as chairing Executive Board and membership meetings, assisting in grievance handling, negotiating contracts, encouraging other workers interested in organizing, and being the face of the Union in the community.

The elected officers of the Union constitute the Executive Board, which meets monthly on the first Monday at 5 p.m. at the Union Hall.

These meetings are open to all members. The Executive Board is empowered to act for the membership when there is a need for action between membership meetings, as well as to make recommendations about what they think is best. All major decisions or recommendations must go to the next membership meeting for approval. Meet the members of the Executive Board!
